Service and Bookings

First off, life revolves around the bar, so that's where to head for drinks, menus and to find out where you're sitting if you've booked.

For dining or drinks inside the pub you have the choice of our lounge and bar area or dining room to choose from when booking – we always try and hold a few tables back for drinks and customers not able to book in advance.

During the warmer months we have a lovely rear terrace and garden. Outside tables are not reservable and allocated on a first come first served basis.

Can i place my order at the bar?

To allow you to enjoy more time with your friends and family we will continue to provide table service for food and drink orders throughout our pub and garden to save you having to wait at the bar. However, should you wish to place your order at the bar yourself you are welcome to do so.

How do I change the date/time of my booking?

On the bottom of your booking confirmation email there is a link where you can cancel your booking. From there simply rebook via our online booking calendar. If you’re running a bit late don’t worry, we always hold table bookings for 15 minutes.

Children and Minors

The Chalk Hare is a family friendly environment, but we do ask that your children are closely supervised at all times.

Families are most welcome in areas away from the bar. We have baby changing facilities and if you would like a highchair, please request one when you book. During the evenings our pub is primarily an adult environment.

We're particularly popular for family Sunday lunches and reservations are advised.

Prams and pushchairs

Due to the constricted nature of some of the dining areas, we ask you to let us know if you have pram or push chair when you make a reservation so we can try and accommodate you.

Parking and Public Transport

We have limited onsite parking for hotel and restaurant guests. The car park is controlled my an ANPR camera system – it is important to register your number plate on entry to the pub for free parking.

When our car park is full:

  • The Civic Centre Car Park with 226 spaces is less than a 5-minute walk from the pub. Directions to this car park on Google, or the postcode for this car park is SG8 7XB. After 3pm and on bank holidays and Sundays parking is free of charge. Current rates from 8am-3pm are £1.30 for up to 3 hours and £3.60 for over 3 hours. If you are using the PayByPhone app to pay for this car park the location code is: 900017
  • Royston Train station is a 10-minute walk from the pub with regular trains to London Bridge, Cambridge and beyond.
  • A variety of bus routes stop at the Town Hall stop outside the front of the pub including routes 15, 16, 17, 18, 91 and 901.

Can I bring a birthday cake?

Yes, you’re more than welcome to bring your own cake. Please do also bring your own candles as it is unlikely that we will have any in our venues.

Where can I find your allergen information?

Allergen information can be located on our menus pages.

Our booking is for a celebration, can I bring decorations?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring balloons etc. However, we do not allow table confetti.

How long will I have my table for?

All table bookings will be allocated a minimum of 1.5hours. Please check your booking confirmation for your table time or ask our team. However, if your table isn’t reserved following your booking, you are of course more than welcome to stay.

Do you allow dogs?

Dogs of the ‘well behaved and on the leash’ variety are most welcome in our garden and bar area where we serve our full daily menu.

We unfortunately cannot accommodate dogs in our restaurant or our hotel rooms. If booking online and bringing a dog, please add a note in the special request box letting us know you require a dog friendly table.

Do you have wifi?

We have free business grade super-fast WiFi throughout all of our venues
