Welcome to the Akeman
Built on the ancient Roman road of Akeman Street in 1901, the Akeman in Tring reopened its doors in 2007. Our Victorian building was designed by acclaimed local architect William Huckvale, and several original features have been retained, including the Victorian façade and the fireplace in the bar. The wood panelling, full-length windows and warm décor have transformed us into a destination venue located just seconds away from the centre of town.
Our courtyard and decking area comes complete with fireplace and comfortable seating options, while one of Hertfordshire's most diverse Woodland Trust sites, Tring Park, is a short walk away. This historic park contains mixed woodland and parkland landscaped in the late 17th and early 18th centuries by Charles Bridgeman, and is home to a variety of plants, birds, invertebrates and mammals.
The provenance of our food and drink is equally impressive with our extensive wine list having been compiled with help from Enotria&Coe, a company with a history spanning more than 125 years. In addition to stocking popular beers from Fuller's, we have a selection of locally sourced drinks from Tring Brewery.
Traceable from field to fork, our Mediterranean-inspired food is served from 8am, Monday to Saturday, and from 9am on Sunday. Dishes include steaks and fish cooked in our charcoal-fuelled Josper grill, as well as pizzas, pasta dishes and home comforts, like our 12 hour roasted pork belly. For every pork dish sold, we donate 25p to the our local charity, and we proudly sponsor Tring Rugby Club and Tring Cricket Club.

Acorn pubs are a collection of 10 pubs, 6 of which offer bedrooms, which sit primarily in the home counties. We could be described as ‘modern pubs’, with an extensive range of draft beers, wines and cocktails with a great menu of freshly cooked Mediterranean-inspired food, which centres around our wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, using traditional cooking techniques and sustainably sourced produce.
Our buildings range from modern to historic, all rejuvenated into contemporary spaces that fit the needs of the communities they serve.
Whether our customers are catching up with friends over drinks, treating the family to Sunday roast in our restaurant, or escaping for a couple of nights to one of our hotels, we pride ourselves on offering the perfect, quality environment to suit, and warm, friendly hospitality.
