(formally Banyers House)
Banyers House in Melbourn Street, closed it's doors at the beginning of January in order to undergo a transformation.
When it re-opens in late March 2026 after 11 weeks of closure, it will take on a new name - the Chalk Hare. This “modern pub” will offer an extensive range of draft beers, wines and cocktails and a great menu of freshly cooked Mediterranean-inspired food alongside ‘pub classics’, which centres around wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, using traditional cooking techniques and sustainably sourced produce.
The Chalk Hare is a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian building in the heart of Royston, complete with 9 boutique style bedrooms and a tree lined garden and patio area.

Acorn Pubs
Acorn pubs are a collection of 10 pubs, 6 of which offer bedrooms, which sit primarily in the home counties. We could be described as ‘modern pubs’, with an extensive range of draft beers, wines and cocktails with a great menu of freshly cooked Mediterranean-inspired food, which centres around our wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, using traditional cooking techniques and sustainably sourced produce.
Our buildings range from modern to historic, all rejuvenated into contemporary spaces that fit the needs of the communities they serve.
Whether our customers are catching up with friends over drinks, treating the family to Sunday roast in our restaurant, or escaping for a couple of nights to one of our hotels, we pride ourselves on offering the perfect, quality environment to suit, and warm, friendly hospitality.
