Reopening 1st August after a refurbishment

The pub is undergoing a refurbishment over the next few weeks, and we'll be back open on Saturday 1st August. Join our mailing list and follow us on socials to keep up to date on the progress and our plans for reopening.

We look forward to welcoming you all back soon.

Welcome to the Tufted Duck

Visit the Tufted Duck (formerly the Akeman) and you'll find a newly renovated Victorian building, designed by local architect William Huckvale in 1901. Original features like the fireplace in the bar have been senstively restored and sit alongside a fresh, contemporary look. The name comes from local wildlife - Tufted Ducks are found on the nearby reservoirs and feature in the collection at the Tring Natural History Museum.

At the heart of the Tufted Duck is our restaurant, headed up by Head Chef Matt and his team, cooking freshly prepared dishes from the daily menu, from wood-fired pizzas to seasonal dishes from the grill and pub favourites, all made with quality ingredients and plenty of care. There is a strong line-up of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options too, and our Sunday roasts are well worth gathering the family for. Whether you are joining us for a relaxed lunch, dinner with friends or a special occasion, you will find a light, welcoming space with proper attention to the food.

The bar sits alongside, stocked with an extensive range of craft beers, real ales, wines and cocktails, and during the warmer months our courtyard garden is a lovely spot to settle in with a drink or a bite to eat.

You can follow the pubs day-to-day life on Facebook or Instagram @tuftedducktring, and subscribe to our mailing list and we'll let you know when anything new or interesting is coming up at the pub.

General Manager Charlie and his crew look forward to welcoming you.

Acorn Pubs

Acorn pubs are a collection of 9 pubs, 5 of which offer bedrooms, which sit primarily in the home counties. We could be described as ‘modern pubs’, with an extensive range of draft beers, wines and cocktails with a great menu of freshly cooked Mediterranean-inspired food, which centres around our wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, using traditional cooking techniques and sustainably sourced produce.

Our buildings range from modern to historic, all rejuvenated into contemporary spaces that fit the needs of the communities they serve.

Whether our customers are catching up with friends over drinks, treating the family to Sunday roast in our restaurant, or escaping for a couple of nights to one of our hotels, we pride ourselves on offering the perfect, quality environment to suit, and warm, friendly hospitality.
